Taraba senator urges dialogue
PROMINENT politicians in Benue State have reacted to the break-up into factions of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend, stating that it is temporary.
Both former member of the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, Chief Abu King Shuluwa, and current Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, told The Guardian on phone that the ugly development would not disintegrate the party, no matter what.
Nevertheless, the Senator representing Taraba South on the platform of PDP, Emmanuel Bwacha, has stressed the need for dialogue.
He told The Guardian on Sunday that Nigerians must understand disagreement as one of the components of democracy, and that the ruling PDP is not immune.
Shuluwa noted that the party had long been enmeshed in crisis but regretted that the party leadership should have nipped it in the bud instead of allowing it to degenerate to its present level.
On his part, Moro said the splinter group walking out of the convention was irresponsible, adding, however, that membership of any party is voluntary.
Noting that the party had never been in such tensed situation as being currently witnessed, Bwacha remained optimistic, however, that the crisis “would be resolved amicably at the end of the day” rather than break the party as some people were beginning to insinuate.
And refusing to join those who see the factions as rebels, he said that as long as disagreement is part of politics, “what is paramount is for all the parties to dialogue and think about how the nation will move forward.”
